requirements not met by the Education Department. One of its first
donations was a piano on 9th July 1928, less than two months after the
school opened. The first President was Mr. J. Shakespeare and subsequent
Presidents of the P & C Association have been:-

For their untiring and unselfish efforts, the following have been made

life members of the East Cessnock School Parents & Citizens Association:-

Mrs. A. Bedford, Mr. C. Bedford, Mrs. J. Shakespeare, Mrs. L. Dodds,
Mr. ?.. Allen, and Mrs. M. Geary.

                A kindergarten class commenced on 8th July 1929. This new class
was held in the Assembly Hall.

                Cessnock Municipal Council had commenced a sanitary pan service
on 26th June 1928. When the Hunter District Water Board introduced a
sewerage system, Cessnock East School was connected to the new sewerage
mains by Butterworth and Haggarty, Plumbers of Cessnock, on 6th December
1934. Their tender price for this work had been £374.12.6 ($749.26).

                 An incinerator was constructed within the school grounds on
 11th February 1938. The Education Department's paint and repair staff
 com~leted repairs and re-painting to the school on 4th November 1940 .
. This work was ass~ssed as being at a value of £598.0.0 ($1 ,196.00).
