In 1920, Cessnock Public School beca~e an un-classified Intermediate
High School.

Arthur Cousins 25th May 1921
Hector Melville 17th January 1923

In 1923, Cessnock Public School was re-graded as an Intermediate High
School (second class).

George Lewis 13th December 1924

In 1926, Cessnock Public School was riased to the status of an
Intermediate High School (first class).

Alexander Dyce 12th December 1928
Frank Purnell 10th December 1929
Douglas Staples 1st December 1931
David Lavey 1st December 1933

In 1934, the secondary school and :~e primary school, althoug~ in the
same school grounds, were separate: under separate headmasters. John
Murray became the first headmaster of the High School (first class).
David Lavey continued as headmaster of the Cessnock Primary School.
