However, it took some time to implement these recommendations, other than that
"re Soldiers Settlement School - On 29th December 1921, a weatherboard house
on an area of 1 acre, 2 roods, 15 perches, in Ninth Street Weston, was purchased
for £500.0.0. ($1,000.00l from Mr. & Mrs. P. McKinnon." This house was to be
the Headmaster's residence.
On 23rd February 1922, tenders were called for the erection of two
additional classrooms, plus verandah and balcony. These new classrooms were
to be constructed on the Cessnock end of the Weston School building. Four
contractors submitted tenders ranging from £1,190.0.0. ($2,380.00l to £1,510.0.0.
($3,020.00l. These contractors were:-
F. Partoz
A. Hitchcock
M. Audet
D. Barnard
Again Mr. Montague Audet was successful with his contract price of £1,190.0.0.
($2 ' 380. 00) . The ad:iitions were completed and occupied with the commencement
of the 1923 school year.
Ir:ispector f. ·..;. Mannell, on 25th February 1924, found a class of infants
was being taught on a verandah, or, if inclement weather prevented this, in
the school corridors. He recommended to his Department that some acco:::c~odation
should be pr~vided. U~on this recommendation, a single portable classr~om
was transpor:ed from ~averley Public School to Weston. Thii new classroom
was ready for use at ~eston on 29th September 1924. The cost of the transfer
had been £90.0.0. ($1~0.00).
