The Rothbury school was closed at the end of the 1964 school year
when school pupil numbers had dropped to an uneconomical level. The
residence and school buildings were demolished and removed on 13th October
1971 by Mr. Alfred Smith, who had purchased the material.

The Education Department revoked its title to this land during
1965. The area was sold by the Lands Board on 13th October 1971.
