   MOUNT VIEW SCHOOL

   3. Site on part of Portion No. 76, Parish of Millfield
           was suitable.

   4. Recommended that the local School Board should be
           comprised of:-

   James McGann - Roman Catholic
   William King - Church of England
   William Dillon - Church of England

   5. Recommended construction of a schoolhouse twenty (20)
           feet by sixteen (16) feet, built of weatherboard.
           Also, a teacher's residence of three (3) rooms and a
           kitchen plus 72 rods of fencing; such fencing to be
           of three (3) rails panel from split timber, with two
           wicker gates.

   6. Estimate total costs including furniture at £600.0.0.
           ($1200.00).

                   The Council of Education approved the establishr:!ent. Its decision
   was shown in Government Gazette dated 22nd December 1879. The site was an
   area of 3 acres, 1 rod, 2 perches and was Portion No. 76, Paris~ of Millfield.
   The Government Architect, Mr. J. Allen Mansfield, when he pre;~~ed his plans
   for the Mount View School estimated the cost at £520.0.0. ($1,040.00).
   Tenders were called. Five contractors submitted prices:-

   1. J. Lynch & VJ. Harman of Bishops Bridge - £580.0.0. ($1,160.00)

   2. Thomas Woodbury & John Forbes of Laguna - £585.0.0. ($1,170.00)

   3. George Brown of Cessnock        - £589.0.0. (3l , 178. 00 )

   4. Edwin Hinchcliffe of Millfield  - £619.0.0. (31, 238·. 00)

   5. Thomas Rowland of Singleton     - £647.0.0. (3 1 ,294.00) .

                   The successful contractors, J. Lynch and W. Harman, C8mpleted the
   building on 20th April 1881: The first school materials and ~~rniture were
