BLACK HILL PUBLIC SCHOOL
By 1969 pupil numbers enrolled were causing accommodation
problems, with regards to changing classroom standards. During the
1969-1970 Christmas vacation, major renovations and alteratipns were
carried out. The building was extended six (6) feet by moving the end
wall. Internal walls and ceilings were covered with hardboard. The
porch was converted into an office and storeroom and this necessitated a
new entrance doorway from the verandah to the classroom. The assembly
area was re-coated with ashphalt and a new fence was erected. The
cost of £3,557.10.0 ($7,115.00) covered the work carried out by the
Education Department's building staff.
An assistant teacher, Miss Vicki O'Hearn, was appointed in
January 1979.
This truly is a school that has shown in its hundred years plus
that it can adapt to changing requirements.
