BROKENBACK SCHOOL
LATER BRUNKERVILLE SCHOOL
An additional room was added to the teacher's residence
on 8th April 1895. The builder was E.A. Harris of Brunkerville.
For his work, he received a sum of £45.0.0 ($90.00). On 12th October
1896, George Latter of Mulbring added a bathroom to the teacher's
residence and did some re-painting, for which he was paid £9.10.0
($19.00). Three years later on 28th October 1899, George Latter built
a wash-house for this residence. His re~uneration was £16.5.0 ($32.50).
During the early part of 1900, tenders -were called for the
erection of a weathershed at Brunkerville Public School. The successful
tenderer was Alfred Dilley of Maitland. His price was £40.0.0 ($80 . 00).
The weathershed was completed on 9th April 1900.
Re-pain~ing and repairs to the Brunkerville School were
completed by t he Public Works Department Staff on 3rd May 1905. This
work cost £103.14.0 ($207.40).
A report by an inspector to the Education Department dated
26th May 1911, shows the Brunkerville School as being a two-roomed
structure; one thirty-six (36) feet by twenty-one (21) feet; the
second fifteen (15) feet by twenty-one (21) feet. It had a hallway
thirteen (13) feet long by three 131 fee~ wide. The school also had
a weathershed, thirty-one (31 I feet by ten (10) feet.
Rep~irs to the teacher's residence, including the installation
of a shower in the bathroom, plus some minor repairi to the school
building, and a re-painting of both structures were completed on 29th
May 1915. Joseph Henry of Morpeth perfor:ned the repairs and painting
at a cost of £186.10.6 ($373.06). Mr.Partridge-Wall did the plumbing
work and for this he was paid £44.14.9 ($89.49).
On 24th March 1939, electric power was connected to the
