"Pupils living at Neath attending Abermain Public
School were instructed by parents to attend at
Neath School today. Miss ยท May Gould, Teacher-in-
Charge at Neath, told the pupils that he (Finney)
had said they must go back to Abermain School and
she also gave each pupil a note stating same".

The pupils refused to go to Abermain - they told Miss Gould "they were on strike"
Mr. Finney made efforts to see Mr. Joseph Turner personally, but on that day
he was not successful.

Inspector Finney, on the following day, went to both Abermain and
Neath Schools. In a report to his Chief Inspector, dated 1st August 1916,
Inspector Finney advised:-

1. Twenty three (23) children re-attended at Abermain
      Primary School.

2. Thirty eight (38) other pupils presented themselves
at Neath School, but had returned to their homes
when the Neath teacher said they could not attend
      there.

3. Later in the morning, he had interviewed Mr. J. Turner.
As a result of their discussions all Neath children
would return to Abermain Primary School on Monday next.

4. Mr. Turner had shown him (Finney) a letter from the
Education Department to the Neath Progress Association,
dated 6th January 1916, which stated that additions
would be made to Neath School to accommodate the children
~oing to the Abermain Primary School.
