school grounds. In an accompanying letter he indicated that adjoining Convey-
ances dated as far back as 1857 and 1862. Finally, after months of examination
and discussion, the Department approved moving the school ground fence to its
correct boundary alignment. Immediately, action from the local School Board
and supporting legal action, testimony and advice, pressured the Department
to resolve to leave the fence in its original position around "Croyles Acres"
as set out in the Agreement and Conveyance dated 1st October 1874.
The question of weathershed accommodation was again raised in 1887
and once more, early in 1888. On 31st July 1888, for a fee of £12.0.0.
($24.00), the Department engaged Mr. Joseph Woodlands of Millfield to remove
the northern end of the stable. This was a building fifteen (15) feet by
fourteen (14) feet. Mr. Woodlands was directed to close in the slab walls,
re-roof with corrugated iron, floor the area and construct seats around the
walls.
W. Taylor of Ellalong, on 28th September 1888, completed a contract
costing £12.0.0. ($24.00), for painting two coats externally on the school
building and a detached weatherboard kitchen which had been built during 1878
to replace the earlier one. The school was closed the week ending 18th April
1889, to allow Mr. Joseph Woodland to replace the shingle roof with galvanised
corrugated iron. The classroom was also repainted internally. Mr. Woodlands
was paid £28.0.0. ($56.00).
William Craft removed the chimney on the school on 13th May 1890.
He was paid £13.10.0. ($27.00) for this work and restoring the roof and walls.
A series of minor repairs were effected at the school and 'to the residence
over several following years:-
(i) 25th March 1895 G.W. Jurd made repairs to the school ·
spouting and schoolground fence.
His fee - £7.19.6. ($15.96).
(ii) 13th January 1896 - George Stern beck, minor repairs -
£6.12.6. ($13.26).
