KURRI KURRI HIGH SCHOOL
Allies fought for its control. This elevated area of Kurri land, now
about to become a high school site, was nicknamed "Hill 60" in recognition
of Australia's participation. Government Gazette dated 1st October 1948,
announced Portion 762, Parish of Heddon, being 9 acres, 3 roods, 39 perches,
as the area for the Kurri High Schoo'l. On 29th September 1961, a further
1 acre, 2 roods, 0 perches, adjoining Portion 762, was resumed from Reserve
35269 and added to the Kurri High School site by dedication in the Govern-
ment Gazette.
After having attained a suitable area in 1953, the Education
Department finally made a decision to proceed. Government Architect,
Cobbden Parkes, was directed to prepare plans and specifications. He
estimated that the new Kurri High School could cost £184r000.0.0.
($368,000.00). His design provided:-
