at the end of the 1919 year, were 663 pupils - 332 boys and 331 girls.
The Infants School enrolments at the same date were 490 pupils. When,
by September 1922, these Primary School enrolments had climbed to 864
pupils - 411 boys and 453 girls, the Department of Education decided the
time was appropriate for additions. Tenders were called for the con-
struction of extensions to the Girls Primary Department. A. Ede of Moss
Vale was the successful tenderer. His quote was £7,065. O. O. ($14,130.00).
The extensions were completed on 13th December 1924 and ·ready for occupancy
with the start of the 1925 school year.
Meanwhile, during 1923, Kurri School had again, been raised
in status. This time to that of a First Class School.
Headmaster Charles Hicks, on 25th February 1928, had to deny
some school admissions, due to lack of accommodation. The Congregational
Church Hall of Rawson and Hampden Streets, Kurri, was rented to provide
an additional teaching area.
The N.S.W. State's Unemployed Relief Council made funds available
between 1929 and 1931 to create work. Under this scheme Kurri school
benefited. A new Domestic Science Block was added. A new Manual Training
Block allowed the old building to be converted for use as kindergarten
classes. Further additional accommodation was made to the Girls Department.
A Science room was provided in the Boys Department. Finally, in July
1932, part of the playground area was asphalted. The Department of
Education records show that at the end of 1932, Kurri School had 913 pupils
enrolled - 478 boys and 435 girls. At the same date there were 426 pupils
at the Infants.
The Education Department works staff, on 18th November 1942,
completed renovations to the Home Science Block. Value of this work
was £181.14.11 ($363.50). The s chool fencing was replaced by this works
section on 17th December 1943. Cost of this fencing was £543.11. 3.
($1,087.13). · This was followed a few months later by the Departmental
works staff making renovations to the school buildings. These renovations
