HEDDON GRETA SCHOOL

                Some renovations and repairs were carried out by the Education
Department works staff in October 1919. These were estimated as costing
£93.0.0 ($186.00) and the work included re-glazing, re-spouting a~d
re-guttering, attendance to white ant damage, new blinds and necessary
painting. The verandah was also closed-in and lined. On 28th October
19~0, R.A. Partridge-Wall, builder of East Maitland, erected new Water
Closets. His quote had been £60.2.6 ($120.26). With the erection of the
new lavatories, Mr. Robert Hunt, for Cessnock Shire Council, provided a
pan service. His fee was seven (7) pence per pan ($0.07¢).

                White ants caused concern over the next fifteen (15) years. On
30th December 1925, the Education Department repair and paint staff assessed
their charges at £86.5.0 ($172.50). Again, on 14th October 1929, the white
ants repairs reached £147.9.3 ($294.93). On 30th June 1931, only a small
amount, £10.0.0 ($20.00) was · expended. On 11th May 1933, some small alterations
by the Public Works Department were estimated at £168.15.0 ($3~7.50). On
15th November 1935, the white ant damage again required £21 .4.1 ($42.41)
worth of repairs.

                The Hedden Greta School Parents and Citizens Association, on 30th
September 1936, paid to have electricity installed at the school. Repairs
and repainting by the Education Department works _staff, on 6th July 1938,
were valued at £110.3.0 ($220.30).

                The Australian Broadcasting Commission, on 9th May 1940, donated
a radio to the school, paid from the funds raised by its employee's Cha~ity
Committee.

                On 30th December 1946, the Education Department repair staff
completed minor alterations estimated as costing £200.1 .4 ($400.14). Further
repairs were made by this section on 3rd November 1949 and were costed at
£254.4.1 ($508.41 ). More major repairs and a repaint were completed on 25th
January 1960 . . These repairs and repaint were assessed to be valued at £1 ,080.0.0
($2,160.00).
