Referencing your sources
Academic integrity and good scholarship require you to acknowledge the sources of information you consulted in order to write your assignment. Most assessment items you submit at University require that you include a reference list or bibliography.
Acknowledging or referencing an author's work makes it clear when you are drawing your own conclusions from the evidence presented, or when you are building an argument by quoting or paraphrasing someone else’s work. It also shows your work has a sound basis in the research of your field. Correct referencing allows your reader to know what you have read and to follow up your work by reading those articles, books, etc as well.

How do you reference correctly?
- By using references or citations in the body of your assignment. This is known as in-text referencing.
- By including a reference list or bibliography at the end of your assignment.
