- June 14 - In NSW, Archdeacon Broughton, cultivating his own plans for a mission to be jointly funded by the CMS and the NSW government, raises the possibility (with Governor Darling) of using the government settlement at Wellington Valley
- June 25 - Reverend J.C.S. Handt arrives in Sydney aboard the Eleanor, without official communications from London, sparking confrontations between Broughton and the Sydney CMS, and aggravating tensions between Broughton and Governor Bourke
- October 7 - Reverend and Mrs Watson receive their instructions
- December 21 - Goderich sends an overview of the scheme to NSW Governor Bourke
