Using common knowledge
Common knowledge is information or facts that are commonly known.
Types of common knowledge include:
- Undisputed historical facts
- Known formulas or equations eg.
- Authors of very well-known works
In general, widely or commonly known dates, facts or ideas are regarded as common knowledge and do not require referencing.
As a rule, ideas, facts, and conclusions that have come from specific investigations and studies, should always include a reference of the source.
If
you are unsure about whether something is regarded as common
knowledge, it is best to reference that source. |
