Writing the introduction
An introduction to a critical review is similar to an essay introduction. It provides a guide to the overall structure of your review. The length of the introduction is usually 10% of the entire review.
Generally an introduction to a critical review contains the following:
- Biographical information about the author (including author's qualifications and authority (Evaluating Information Module))
- A sentence or two summarising the topic of the article and which highlights the author's central theme or argument.
- An introduction to your review - how you have approached this critique (include examples of typical approaches)
- Brief introduction to your conclusion and judgement on the overall value of the source.
