Referencing sources of information
Properly acknowledging the source of information you use in your work is an essential element of academic writing and an
important aspect of academic integrity.
Appropriate referencing provides evidence of your wide reading on the topic and testify to the amount of effort you have
made to understand the broader issues.
There are several main styles of referencing (writing and plagiarism module) and each discipline has its own preferred style and requirements for the way
evidence is referenced in the body of your work and at the end of your assignment; therefore, check your study guide for the
style you should be using.
Many schools have published style guides, and the University Library holds manuals for the major referencing styles.
