Parts of an essay: The conclusion

You can use your conclusion to convince your reader that you are in total control of the research and writing process.

Your conclusion should start with a strong statement reaffirming your thesis. You do not have to repeat the essay question or provide a background for the issues you raise in the body. No new information should be included. Therefore references are rarely needed.

Rather you should clarify the relevance of the evidence you have used in the body and show how it combines to make your case significant. You do not want your lecturer left thinking, "so what".
