SWEETMANS CREEK SCHOOL

Inspector J. Hayes reported to his Department on 21st November 1929
on some white-ant damage at the school. The Departmental paint and repair
staff made the necessary res to ration. At the same time, this staff renewed
the flooring in the lavatories. Their work was assessed as costing £36.16.9
($73.69).

At the start of the 1934 year, school pupil enrolments at Sweetmans
Creek fell to only nine (9) pupils. However, a new family moving to the area
assisted in retaining the school.

During that year, Fredrick Ash, Hardware Store of Cessnock, supplied
a new water storage tank on 13th August 1934 at a cost of £6.5.4 ($12.54).

When school nu~bers again showed a drop in late 1937, school teacher
T~cmas Cater was withdrawn. The school closed in December 1937.

On 11th April 1939, the Sweetmans Creek School buildings and out
hcuses were moved to Salt Ash. The fairly new tank supplied in 1934 was
transferred to Millfield Public School.
