                The Council of Public Instruction records show that Oakvale Public
School officially closed on 31st July 1872.

                It is of interest that in January 1878, William Steinbeck replaced
Teacher George Molster as Head Teacher at the Buchanan Church of England
Denominational School. In 1880, when the Rector of the Church of England at
East Maitland, Rev. L. Tyrell agreed that the Buchanan Church of England
Denominational School should be taken over by the Council of Public Instruction
William B. Steinbeck was retained as the first teacher of this Buchanan Govern-
ment School, and remained there for some eight (8) years.

The one and only teacher at Oakvale Public School was:-

William B. Steinbeck  19th September 1870
                      Until 31st July 1872
