What are the consequences of academic or research misconduct?
The consequences of academic or research misconduct could seriously affect your grades and your continued enrolment.
University decisions about penalties for students are based on the following criteria:
- The nature and extent of the misconduct
- Any previous misconduct by the student
- Any mitigating circumstances (extracted from Student Misconduct Rule)
There are a range of actions that may be taken and penalties that may be imposed. All students penalised as a result of a case of student academic misconduct will have their name, the nature of the charge, and the penalty recorded on a central Student Misconduct Register as a formal record of misconduct.
Allegations of research misconduct will be referred to the Dean of Graduate Studies.
