Copyright and the Internet
Copyright law on the Internet is the same as in other formats. You should not assume that material on the Internet is copyright free or available in the 'public domain', or that you can print, download or adapt anything you can access on the Internet.
Examples where you may infringe copyright include:
- Copying material from a website - including images, downloading music and films
- Cutting and pasting material on to your website or elsewhere from another website
- Saving to your disk or hard drive material from a website
- Making material from the Internet available to others using email or by placing on an Intranet
Before printing or saving material from the Internet, check for a copyright statement. This may inform you as to what you are able to do with the material on the website. If no copyright statement exists you should contact the copyright owner to ask for permission to print or download the required material.
