Fair dealing under the Copyright Act

 

Copying (ie. photocopying, printing) of a reasonable portion of works is allowed for the purpose of research and study. See the Australian Copyright Council's Online Information Centre for further information

 

What is considered a reasonable portion?

 

Some examples of a reasonable portion that can be copied are:

 

Text or printed music
Text published in electronic form
Newspaper, magazine and
journal articles
10% of the total number of pages,
or:
one chapter (if divided into chapters)
10% of the total number of words,
or:
one chapter

One article from a single issue of a journal - or more than one article if the articles relate to the same subject
