Statistics

Statistics are collections of facts and figures gathered on often very specific topics. They are useful in assignments to support theories and arguments, and to describe a situation or trend.

In Australia, the main source of official statistics is the Australian Bureau of Statistics. The ABS gathers and collates statistics on many aspects of Australian life, including employment, education, health, income, imports, exports and population. The National Census, held every 5 years in Australia, is also an important statistical measure of Australian society.
