Subject directories
Subject directories are hierarchical lists of web sites that are chosen and classified by actual human beings, that is they have undergone an evaluation process. They are useful places to start if you are not really sure what you are looking for. Starting from one of the major categories, click through until you find the kind of information you are after. Most directories also allow you to search for a topic within their index. Many may also add results from one of the major search engines. Typically subject directories index a much smaller number of web pages than search engines.
