Choosing the right database
There are a number of ways to decide which are the best databases for your assignment - including:
- The broad subject menus on the Library Databases web page.
- Select a subject area and find a list of library databases relevant to that subject.
- A librarian can advise on the content of each database and recommend which is best suited to your specific information needs.
- Your lecturer may recommend a specific database for the purpose of your assignment, project, or research.
Considerations that will help you:
- Subject content - Is the coverage relevant to your topic or subject area?
- Perspective - Are you looking for Australian material or a broader international perspective?
- Treatment - The treatment of the content may be of importance in health or medical related research. Do you need clinical or non-clinical information?
- Coverage - What range of years are covered or indexed? Do you need historical or older information? Does the database have suitable
coverage for your needs?
