Evaluating Internet resources
Internet resources can also be useful sources of information for assignments. But, as is the case with other sources of information, you must employ rigorous evaluation.
- There is much more information available on the Internet today than a few years ago.
- The information explosion places more responsibility upon the reader to critically evaluate resources. The need for evaluation is even more critical because almost anyone can place information there without being monitored for quality or accuracy.
The quality of information on the Internet is extremely variable and difficult to assess. Therefore, it is important to use the same critical evaluative skills (page 5) in looking at information on the Internet that you would use when evaluating a book or journal article.
