Keeping within word counts
Word limits are a very specific part of the discipline associated with academic writing. Completing your assignment within
the minmum and maximum word limit is about demonstrating your ability to organise your research and writing within time and
space.
When you are set a word limit you are being provided with a guide for the amount of information you should include in your
work. The number of words available to you limits the breadth and depth of your research and analysis.
However, be aware that your ability to utilise written language effectively, and to avoid redundancies, verbosity and other
forms of unnecessary word use, can greatly increase the content of your writing that is available for gaining marks.
