Descriptive writing may include simple accounts of significant events and situations that you experience. Questions you can ask yourself:

What was the event or situation?
  • I attended my first lecture today about ...
  • In my online discussion group there was a message from another student about...
What happened?
  • The lecturer recommended a journal article ...
What did I do?
  • I went to the Library at lunchtime and found ...
  • I found a journal article that looks interesting ...

The events you describe provide the subject matter for you to potentially analyse further and act as the background for your reflective thinking. It is useful to record these accounts as soon as possible after the event has taken place, in order to remember what you felt and how you responded.
