Analytical
Critical analysis of your descriptions forms the analytical element of your reflective journal. Your lecturer will be looking for evidence of deeper thought and analysis of your experiences.
Ask yourself:
- Has the event/situation raised any questions for me? What are they?
- What did I learn about the event/situation?
- What was I initially feeling and thinking about the event/situation?
- How do I feel now about the event/situation?
- What assumptions did I have about the event/situation? Were these assumptions challenged in any way?
- Were there any significant moments about the event/situation?
- What do I need to do now?
Be aware of maintaining confidentiality when writing your journal entries particularly if your journal is based on a practicum or other practical experience.
